A Season of Thanksgiving: How our thinking shapes our brain
Wednesday, November 3, 2021
Gratitude fosters:
- Optimism
- Selflessness
- Spirituality
- Empathy
- Self-esteem
Where to start: The exercise of finding gratitude every day: Make a list
- 3 Things about myself
- 3 Things about others/relationships
- 3 things from my environment (objects/opportunities)
- 3 things in Nature
What happens in our brain when we practice gratitude?
- Firing of new neurons – improving cell health
- Improve positive thinking and creating new ideas
- Decrease fear and anxiety
- Decrease the stress hormone cortisol which boost cell health and decreases inflammation
- Increase dopamine and serotonin in the brain : the happiness chemicals!
That old cliché of gratitude shapes our attitude is true after all!
