December 2023 Blog – Celebrating The Holiday Season

Friday, December 8, 2023

As we celebrate the holiday season it is important to recognize that all the celebrations and decorations may elicit feelings of loneliness and loss. As well as nostalgia related to holidays past and memories lost. It may be a very busy time that creates feelings of being overwhelmed and at a loss. To guide our families and loved ones and caregivers through this time we want to present to you 4 questions that you can ask yourself:

Spiritual:

What does worship and celebration means to me and my loved one? How can I honor that?

Social:

What activities or events would we like to be part of? How can we create new opportunities?

Physical:

How do I maintain physical exercise if I have a busy Holiday season?

Mental:

How can I create time to relax or decrease Holiday activities if it becomes too overwhelming for me?

It is important to consider how to include your loved one in festivities and celebrations.

What did that look like for them in the past?

What did they enjoy the most about the season?

How can you create situations that simulate experiences or events?

An example is baking and decorating cookies together, or listening to Christmas music together, or watching classical holiday movies.  Or go for a ride to look at lights in the neighborhood or enjoy favorite food and drink together.

Whatever it looks like, include your person as much as possible and know that you can create new and joyful experiences. Photos of your moments together is a great way to reminisce with later on how you celebrated the season so remember to take some good ones!

From our team to you and yours: Merry Christmas and Peace and Joy!
