“Nutritional choices are the building blocks for our cell health. At Botes Memory Method we use the Cleveland Institute’s 6 pillars of brain health and utilizes this training information to elevate knowledge of choices for brain health for our clients.
Hydration and Nutrition forms the same pillar in the 6 pillars of brain health.
For our organs to function properly we need to drink ½ our body weight in fluid ounces of healthy liquids daily.
For example:
- Water
- herbal teas
- diluted fruit juices
- clear soups
- milk
When we stay hydrated we prevent low blood pressure that may lead to dizziness and falls.
We also promote concentration and memory which are two very important components of cognitive wellness.
There some easy ways to stay hydrated:
Follow a hydration schedule (for example drink a full cup of water at every meal time, with every toileting session, at every meal as well as with medication)
Mark the appropriate number of bottles of water for the day, and place it in the refrigerator which is a visual reminder of progress
Keep a hydration calendar and mark off progress
Nutritional support for our cells lies in the power of anti-oxidants which also can be called the soldiers that protect and clean our cells from harmful chemicals and inflammation. Healthy choices to include in your daily diet are:
- Healthy oils (avocado, olive, coconut, fish)
- varieties of nuts
- variety of berries
- citrus fruits
- leavy greens
Not only do anti-oxidants protect and clean our cells up, it also provides protection against rapid aging and diseases.
Berries, leavy greens and healthy oils combined with a good protein powder can easily be incorporated in to a tasty healthy smoothie for someone who’s appetite may be challenged.
There are scientific evidence that indicates that a healthy diet may prevent us from developing dementia since it protects us against so many disease processes.
Here is to a happy and healthy April!
