  • Boosts Healing
  • Creates Safety
  • Anchors us in the here and now

How to approach our person with dementia:

  • At eye level/ make sure they acknowledge you with eye contact
  • Touch gently first to establish safety (arm/knee/shoulder)
  • Make simple statement with comforting tone “I could use a hug”
  • Do a sideways hug using your arm around their shoulders
  • Be aware of any body language changes
