December 2022- University Of Florida Capstone Research Project
Friday, December 23, 2022
We had the honor of completing a capstone research with a gifted occupational therapy student, Dr. Breanna Singletary
π We developed a standardized, and validated home care tool to measure quality of life for both the person living with dementia/Alzheimerβs, and their caregivers. (The BQOL-T)
This will also help us measure perceived burden as well as our intended outcomes.
π We also were able to establish the value of The Botes Analysis of Functional Cognition for our internal staff.
49 OT team members took part in a anonymous survey to measure the Botes Analysis against paper based cognitive assessments (SLUMS/MOCA/MMSE) as well as the GDS and Allen cognitive test.
We are thrilled to report that this survey of peers, demonstrated that The Botes Analysis of Functional Cognition scored superior against other cognitive tests for:
- Ability to capture real time executive cognition as related to function
- Ability to set appropriate goals
- Access to appropriate interventions to address cognitive barriers
- Ability to relay information to Care partners in a way that impacts #qualityoflife
- Increased anecdotal outcomes in the home
- Improved clinician competence serving persons living with #dementia
We are very excited to continue to validate The Botes Analysis of Functional Cognition in order to enhance clinical assessment ability as well as improve healthcare outcomes! We would like to thank Dr. Sherrilene Classen, Dr. Linda Struckmeyer and Dr. Chiung-ju (CJ) Liu for their commitment to our OT community as well as dementia clinical excellence!
